Blog Carnival: Balancing Christmas Message and Materialism
Life as a Christian Woman is hosting its second blog carnival: Christian Women Speak Up and Speak Out: Balancing the true meaning of Christmas with materialism.
How do you achieve a balance between the two? Or do you? Tell us what your family does to keep the spirit of Christ’s birth in your heart during the stress of the Holidays and the quest for “the perfect gift.”
Technology is wildly popular as a gift. Some of the newer game systems and other gadgets can cost $1000 or more by the time you include the “additional features,” games, specialized add-ons, etc. Designer clothing can mean spending $200 for a pair of denim jeans.
Even if you buy small, less expensive items, they add up quickly when you buy for family, close friends, church leaders, co-workers and bosses, and your kids’ friends and teachers. Do you get caught up in “I bought something for her, so I should pick up something for the other her,” or “I know he will spend at least $20, so I can’t give anything less than that?” Where do you draw the line on the materialism?
The blog carnival entries will be posted on December 10, 2007. The deadline for submissions is December 9. You can post the entry on your own blog and send me the link, or you may submit your full story to be posted on this site. This carnival is also listed on BlogCarnival.com. I have decided to balance the two by not giving in to materialism and allowing commerce to rule my family’s Christmas. We will go back to the way it “used” to be old-fashioned style and spend more time together and less money.
