Bring God to Work Day

We’ve all heard of “Bring Our Daughters/Sons to Work Day.” It’s a great chance for the kids to see what we do when we aren’t at home, a chance for us to share our lives in greater detail.

As Christians, we are supposed to have God in all our daily tasks. After all, He is always with us, and we are called to let our light shine so that others may see Him through us.

So how does that translate at work? In most workplaces, you will get in trouble for sharing your faith. Many offices have gone so far as to stop letting employees put pictures of their families on their desks, so traditional “witnessing” is out of the question. All of this is in the name of not making anyone feel uncomfortable, being politically “correct.” Which, of course, goes against everything we are taught as Christians!

So what should we do? Well, let’s think about the verses from Matthew 5:15-16:

Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

We can let our light shine in other ways, in ways that will show God’s grace and love. How? Think about a light, in its truest sense. When a light is just sitting there, with no electric current running through, it is useless. In the dark, it becomes much harder to do the simplest task. But when the electricity is turned on, it illuminates everything around, making it possible to do what needs to be done without a second thought.

The Holy Spirit is our electricity. Let it run through you and light you up, and that light will pour on all those around you wordlessly. They will see your spirit of love, they will be drawn to you. Just as the light helps us see in the dark, the light of Jesus shining through you will help others see His love, help bring them to Him.

So let your light shine! Light up everything and everyone around you with the love of God… and see how much reflects right back on to you!

About Life as a Christian Woman

Life as a Christian Woman explores Biblical truths as they apply to modern faith and the vital roles we can play in the body of Christ. Some topics are easy, such as Christ died for our sins. Others, like divorce, single parenthood, work, and submission to our spouses are more challenging. Then there are days we just need a good laugh with God. Together, we can learn practical faith in an impractical world.
