It’s the Vision Thing
“The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.”
God’s will is a very unpredictable thing. You never know where He will lead, or what He has in store for you. Just when you think you have it all figured out, He has a different idea. I can remember times in my life when I thought to myself, “OK, I know why I’m here and what God wants me to be doing.” It was usually just a matter of months before He was shoving me in a different direction.
One specific time I was at such a good place in my life. I had a job I loved with people I enjoyed. I had bought my own home in a city that was fun.
And suddenly, I was miserable. The things that had made my life so full… job, house, friends… suddenly seemed to drag me down. There was no specific reason, but within a matter of weeks, I was so unhappy, so empty.
Then I met my future husband.
God was preparing me for my next stage in life, where He wanted me to go. Now I’m not suggesting that God has to make you miserable to get you to do what He wants you to do, but I do believe that He has vision for our lives that we can’t even imagine.
There is a family at our church who is about to embark on quite an adventure. The husband and wife had been feeling for quite a while that God had a direction for them, but couldn’t quite figure out what it was. One day the wife asked the husband if he had ever considered mission work
Sure,” he replied. “Let’s go on a mission trip!”
“No,” said his wife. “I mean become missionaries.”
Let’s just say that the husband was less than thrilled at the prospect of taking his three children and wife, learning a new language, and moving thousands of miles from home. But God kept poking him, prodding him. And he kept telling God “No, there must be something else you really want me to do.”
They leave in February!
The will of God is amazing, and is always followed by His grace. He won’t lead you and leave you. He knows what He wants and needs from you, and He will equip you, comfort you, and stand beside you.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Trust God. He knows what He is doing.

I love the quote you started this post out with. It reminds me of something that Corrie Ten Boom said in The Hiding Place. She said “In the center of His will is our only safety.” Sometimes, it feels like God is asking too much of us, or in our humanness, we don’t understand and we fight God’s plan for us, we forget that He’ll take care of us no matter where He leads us.
Thanks for sharing this.
