Our Legacy to Young Christian Women
When MyTrueSelf1 made this video, she was searching for the legacy of Christian women. In her search, she discovered that most of the great historical Christians viewed women as inferior, incapable of intelligence, and even the root of evil.
We know that history was not exactly kind to women, and those struggles continue today in many parts of the world. But what is our current legacy? What foundations are we laying today for those young Christian women who will follow us? I have mentioned the women role models in a previous post, but many of those historical role models made their contributions against all odds. Are we now offering a chance for women to make contributions because of the odds?
We live in an economy that makes it almost impossible to support a family on one income, so women have entered the work force. Yet especially in the church, we stress the importance of motherhood and staying home to raise our children. Are we assuring mothers who must work that they are no less Christians and their financial support of their family is just as valuable? We urge our daughters to get an education and attend college where they can learn science, math, history, literature, and the fine art of thinking for themselves. Are we offering them a chance within the church to use this education, or do we then expect them to apply the laws of physics only in the kitchen? Christian women make invaluable contributions every day in the fields of ministry, missions, music, and Christian education. But is it not true that these contributions are largely overlooked in the media, while statements made by prominent Christian men against women make national headlines?
Now, more than any other time in history, we have the opportunity to leave an enduring legacy to our young women. Our job is to help them learn what it truly means to be a Christian, to love Jesus, and use their minds and education to further the church for God’s glory. I know with an assurance beyond understanding that God loves me just as much as he loves the man sitting next to me. Without a doubt, I know that he blesses my works and my struggles to understand the Bible as his inspired word and to use that understanding with his guidance. The legacy I want to leave is not one of making a difference in spite of, but one of simply making a difference.
Use resources such as Today’s Christian Woman and Joyce Meyer’s teachings to show the young women in your church the true modern legacy of Christian women.

I know what you mean about limiting what girls can do. I have two daughters, and it is my goal to make sure they know they can do anything. I recently returned to school, (college), to pursue a degree in Journalism.
I hope this sets a good example for them. Writing has been a passion for me as long as I can remember, and I need to be conscience
to let them see me doing what I love, and am gifted for.
